Fun with Grandpa Holway

Even though it was a short visit, the children had so much fun playing in the basement with Grandpa Holway.

Again, not to toot the horn on this, but Jared amazes me on his physical abilities for a 15 month old.  I am 99% positive Mallory wasn't even close to being able to throw a ball, overhand, underhand, two handed, one handed, and run and kick a ball at this age.  He's been doing it for a while but he has gotten really good at running full speed and kicking the ball and is really good with his aim.

Somehow this is the only picture I got of Mallory and Grandpa playing.  She thought it was really funny he was putting the princess tent on his head.

I realized as they were leaving that I did not have any pictures of all of them. This was my attempt to get one, but at this point they were squirmy and not cooperative.
Every time we go into the basement, Mallory asks when Grandpa is going to come back....which tells me that Grandpa must be more fun than me :)

Dance - Year 2

After going back and forth on this, we enrolled Mallory for dance again this year. She had been asking about it every week since her last one ended so I caved.  Last year she did jazz and this year it's a ballet/tap combo.  I can't tell you how much she LOVES the tap shoes.  One day they let class out early on accident and didn't do tap...I heard about it the whole week!

We had to get a shoe bag because she has two types of shoes now. :)  We had a meltdown the first week we had the bag because some little girl decided to take the bag and walk out of the room so Mallory couldn't find her shoes.

Jared loves dance day too for no other reason than the big chair (did I ever mention how much he loves chairs????)....

Sibling Love

Everything Mallory does, Jared does.  This is good and bad.  When Mallory is making good choices, it's great, when Mallory's not making good choices it's bad.  Her favorite thing is to do something wrong, get Jared to do it, and then when we tell her to stop she says, "Well Jared is doing it."  Sometimes kids are just way to crafty in their thoughts.

Anyway, I love how much they play together.  I thought with a gender difference they wouldn't be as close, but they love being around each other (most of the time).

The pictures are terrible because I forgot to use the flash, but every night Jared loves giving Mallory goodnight kisses, and I love ending my day seeing so much family love!

Bedtime Struggle

I know I can't be the only parent, but the more and more families I talk to, the more and more I feel like I must be doing something wrong.  It doesn't matter if we skip naps or not, we cannot get Mallory and Jared down before 9:30pm. I'm not sure if I have false expectations, but I thought kids were supposed to go to bed by 8 and sleep for 12 hours...Anyway, if that is the case, my kids must not be sleepers.  They go down at 930 and are up and ready to go most days by 7.  I think I could sleep more than they do!  Jared still takes a 2 hour nap a day, but most days Mallory skips her nap (mainly because she wont fall asleep before 2pm, and if I let her sleep then she'll be up until 10:30 or 11.)

Also, both of our children HATE sleeping with covers on.  Apparently they did not get the long sleeping times and cozy sleeping habits from their parents!
Also, I thought daylight savings would result in an early bedtime for at least a few days...no such luck, still 930 on the new time....

Motor Skills

I'm always so fascinated by the different motor skills the children are learning.  Jared's latest discovery is the twist top.  You would think this is a good thing, but if lids aren't on really tight, they are soon open and spilled everywhere.  Here is a little sequence of motor skills in action:

In this case, he can only get the top screwed on, so he kept asking for me to take it off so he could put it back on.

Mallory's latest task she is beginning to master is riding the bike.  She thinks she can be fancy now and ride with one hand, while drinking a juice box. When I was younger, I thought I had skill too and tried to ride with no hands on the sidewalks that dip down for the driveways.  Let's just say I did not have the skill I thought I had, and that is all I could think of while she was doing this.

Eric's Swearing in Ceremony

October 19, 2011 is the day Eric became official.  Even though our big moment of relief came after seeing the passing results of the BAR, this day defined the day he had to put on his big boy underwear and stamp his name on all his work as opposed to doing work and others having to take responsibility if it wasn't right.

Eric's Dad and Cathy made it down for the event.  Even though the weather was less than ideal, it was appreciated that they made the trip.

It was difficult to get a picture of all the new associates at Eric's firm.  I posted this one because I thought it was funny it looked like they were all getting dance lessons or something.
I never managed to get one with everyone looking in the same direction.

Brad and Hannah (the other Dayton couple)

Even when they were all looking, I never got all their eyes open.  Apparently photography is not my thing.

Standing before the judge waiting to be motioned in...not sure if I said that right.

Lots of bow ties :)
My camera battery died just as we were leaving, so I made everyone walk back to the car to get my cell phone so we could take pictures.  Seemed like a good idea, but of course it started raining on the way back.

This guy walked right in my picture.  I swear he came out of nowhere.
Do you see the nice orange suit in the background?

Paying the dues.  I'm sure everyone was not thrilled, but I got out of the room first and got in line for Eric so we weren't waiting for hours.  Smartest thing I did all day.

In between we went to lunch at First Watch and then walked a mile in the rain to the next one.  Here are some videos of parts of the ceremony if you so choose to watch.

The last statement I'll make for the day is that I thought it was funny that almost every person that got up there to talk in front of the judge about their new attorney made the statement, "they were the top of their class from WVU."  I find it hard to believe that many were actually the top of their class.

Bathtub Dilemma

I have come to dread bath time because it seems inevitable that it is always after dinner and always when Jared needs to potty.  It doesn't seem to matter if I wait or watch his facial expressions, it just seems to be something about putting him in the tub
