Stonewall Resort and Spa

Eric surprised me with a trip to the Stonewall Resort and Spa for my birthday.  It was a quick weekend, but it was a nice little get away (with spa treatment :)).  The nice part is that it's on a state park, so it's reasonably priced with great service.  We will be going back in the summer for sure!

Only mishap of the weekend was that they brought me a happy birthday cake, but it said "Happy Birthday Barb!"  Not sure where that came from, but I'm guessing someone named Barb got a Happy Birthday Amanda :)

Somehow in the mad rush to get out of the house, we forgot our swimsuits.  They had a little gift shop with a few swimsuits for sale....I had to squeeze into a youth 16- let's just say, I looked 16, it did not fit well and I will not be wearing it again.  Mallory on the other hand loved that we matches and wanted to take a picture....

I think the kids love chocolate covered strawberries just as much as I do.

They had one swim diaper left for sale.

They have a ton of hiking trails and it was so beautiful.  I can't wait to go biking and boating there this summer.

We were making different shapes with the crayons and Eric did this one and asked Mallory what it was.  Thinking he was going to get the response arrow, he was surprised when he got, "a triangle on a stick".  I love how little minds work.

Their spa services were reasonable too, not like Broadmoor or Greenbrier. They also had a nice little playground for the kids, miniature golf, kids crafts, games, and toys.   I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a place to go.

21 months and 49 months!

The older the kids get, the more interactive they, which can be good and bad! :)  Jared has been singing lately and it makes me smile every time.  He gets really embarrassed when you look at him while he does it, but he does hand gestures with it. He's favorite is Twinkle, Twinkle, and "Nah,Nah,Nah, Nah, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey, Good bye".  I have no idea where he learned that one.  His favorite saying is, "Oh Man!"  The only problem with his words is that "again" sounds like "all done" - - we never know which one he's saying so we don't often know what he wants.

Mallory is a little pistol. Where does the attitude come from (ok, sometimes I will admit I hear my tone of voice, but still).  She is amazing at repeating and it just makes you want to scream!  Last thing you want to hear when you say, "Don't speak to me like that." is "You don't speak to me like that" or "Mom, Lose the attitude."  Did I tell you how much I am dreading the teenage years?

Jared's Stats:
Weight: 29lbs (73%)
Height: 34in (64%)

Mallory's Stats:
Weight: 46lbs (96%)
Height: 42.5 in (97%)

A couple funny Malloryism's:

Mallory came home and kept doing funny things and saying, April Food's.  No matter how many times I correct her, she insists that it's that instead of April Fools.

Also, did I tell you how much Jared loves to play with balls?? Well his favorite pajamas are his ball pajamas. He calls them his balls. The other day he was swinging them around and hitting Mallory with them and Mallory yelled, "Jared, get your balls out of my face!"

The other day Mallory was in the restroom and Jared swung the door open.  I immediately heard her yell, "Jared, get out! I'm having a bowel movement!"

One of our Friday night activities is going to Toy's R Us and playing with the toys. (Yes, we are lame)

How may books can you fit in a dog Kennel?? Turns out  A LOT.  It took us forever to take them all out and put them back on the shelf.  Not sure why they thought this was a good idea.

Apparently everything is a hat to a 1 year old.

Jared has his first "girl friend".  They play and flirt while Mallory is at dance.  He always gives her a hug when she gets there.  He shows off for her too :)

Jared thinks he needs to be on the big kid swing.

When they aren't fighting, they come up with the silliest things to keep themselves entertained, like balancing themselves between the love seat and ottoman.

These blocks have kept them entertained for many of hours. I'm so glad I bought them.

Don't EVER buy white pants (although the stains did come out).

Jared loves playing hoops.  See below for some videos.

Trying out the backpacks at Books a Million.

My little puzzle kids.

Jared is obsessed with walking up and down the stairs by himself.  Gives me a heart attack, but he has get to take a tumble...so I guess you just go with it.

Best part of shy kids are that they sit REALLY still while you eat if there is company around.

It's funny how kids have more fun with the free stuff than the hundreds of toys they have.
JARED THROWING THE BASKETBALL IN THE HOOP
Jared saw some joggers the other day and saw them moving their arms while they run, so he has started doing it....
The park is a different place this summer -- Jared is climbing up by himself, going down the big slides by himself, and giving me a heart attack in the meantime.

I finally got Jared into the Dermatologist for the raised skin on his back. They aren't 100% sure what it is, but as long as it doesn't grow they aren't concerned.  We have to go back every year to check and he may have to have it removed later on as some can become cancerous around puberty.  Hoping for the best!
This is in the waiting room where I discovered the joy these blocks brought them :)

Do your Kids Make you Worry???

What is it about kids that make you worry about every little thing?? Perhaps I am the only parent that does this, but a perfect example is that Mallory peed to bed 2 nights in a row and hasn't done this in over 7 months.  Of course when you look up on the internet (darn internet!) it talks about physical abuse, emotional problems, sleep problems, and so on.   After thinking the worst, I finally figured out that Mallory had not been going to the bathroom before bed anymore.....haven't had an accident since we put that back into place. When all is said and done, you feel silly for thinking all those things, but what if it had been something serious, you would feel guilty for not doing something.

Parenting is hard, but mainly for the reason you are constantly wondering if you are doing it right and how the decisions you make are going to affect them in the future.  I guess you just have to trust that giving it your best will be enough!

Random March Photos

I couldn't really figure out what to do with these pictures, so here are our Random March Photos.

This was from Bunco night, so funny how they really get into the theme of the month.

This month we discovered Bridge Road shops.  I don't know how we have lived here 7 months without knowing about them.  Anyway, there is a restaurant called South Hills Market that we went to eat at and it was awesome.  We will definitely be going back.

When I went to pick Mallory and Jared up from school, the wind was blowing the petals off the trees and it looked like it was snowing.

Did I tell you how much I hate spiders??? They are so big here, I HATE it! First one I've spotted of the season....

Reward Discipline Techniques

Mallory is quite the stubborn child and seemed to be throwing more tantrums and getting more of an attitude lately.  Time outs were not working at all, so we started a new Ticket Reward system.  She gets one for doing things right and gets them taken away for doing things wrong.  At the end of the day, if she has at least five, she gets to sit in our bed with us for a while before going to her bed.  Surprisingly, this has worked really well.  I think the best part of the system is that it forces you to point out the good along with the bad so you aren't constantly pointing out everything bad they do.

We also bought this responsibility magnet chart that we change week to week. She loves setting the table, feeding the dog, and brushing her teeth now :)
Who knows how long it will last, but I'm going to keep using it until it stops working and then try something new!

Let the Reading Begin!

Mallory has been asking and asking for me to teach her to read.  The first day was rough (and frustrating for me), but these Bob Books really got her excited about reading. At first it was memorization as it starts off with Mat, and then when we'd get to a word like Mit, she would say Mat.  We have moved on from that and she can get most of the words now, but just to be sure it wasn't memorization, we have started a reading program called, Teach your Child to read in 100 easy lessons.  It's phonics based and we just started it yesterday, so I'll have to keep you updated on how she is progressing.

Mallory's Curious George Carnival 4th Birthday Party!

A little overdue on the posting, but here are the pictures from Mallory's party.  She had a great time and I enjoyed coming up with the ideas.

The photo booth.

Guessing game.

The rest of the games came in a carnival pack from Oriental Trading Company for only $100 (with carnival favors).

We ordered pizza but it didn't come until later.

Photo booth fun:

Pin the butterfly on Curious George's hand.

As soon as she blew out the candle, she was 4! I guess that's how it works in a 4 years olds mind.

The cake.  The top was a rice krispy treat covered in fondant.

Took the kids a minute to want to do this, but they all had fun once they figured it out.

Who doesn't love a duck pond?

With Mallory being shy, we only had her open presents as people were leaving if they wanted to watch her. She would have froze if everyone was staring at her.

A little post part photo booth shots.

The clean up crew- I couldn't have done this without their help!

We opened all the presents once we got home.

Here favorite was the puzzles of course.

Jared got a gift too :)

Strawberry Shortcake remote control car.

For her birthday present, I found a steal of a deal on a good quality bounce house.  It has been one of the better investments we ever made!

On her actual birthday, we let her open her gifts that came from Grandparents in the mail.  She definitely felt the love.

I have had it on my list to write thank you notes, but now that it's over a month ago, is it tacky to do that??? Not sure what the etiquette is on that.  Just know, we are so thankful and are so glad you thought of Mallory on her birthday.
